268th Station Hospital, was the only all-black hospital unit in US Army History activated at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

HISstory begins in 1942 at a US military induction center in Cleveland, Ohio.
"I could hear the sounds of the noisy Army train ...wailing just a few steps away on the other side of that door. I'm thinking: a new wife, a baby on the way and WAR. All the young men I knew were called upon to serve leaving loved ones during this time of WAR. Given the choice to face that "noisy beast today or tomorrow" each way that wailing beast and I would be one...on a journey to the unknown. My life had taken a change forever...but I knew as I walked out that door I had made the right choice! I was in the army!
This is a story of a World War II US Army medic in the 268th Station Hospital Unit stationed out of Fort Huachuca, Arizona from 1942 to 1945. His journey is told thru conversations, love letters, diary and letters between brothers: one in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) and the other in the European Theater. I am proud to say this soldier is known to me as "Dad".
With much pride in many conversations Dad was always quoted as saying "We were good! Our unit was known as 'The Fighting 268th, when we hit the pond, our only weapons were a machete, a '45 and a Red Cross badge going thru the jungles."
